Q&A With Amanda Moss of Covet: Defining Canadian Fashion One Mojito At A Time

What inspired you to start designing?
Designing has been an important part of my life since I was a little girl. I love the creative process and seeing a vision come to life in the form of a beautiful garment.

How would you describe the overall aesthetic of Paper Crown?
Paper crown designs are classic, feminine, romantic and sophisticated.

What's the story behind the name?
When I was young I used to love playing dress up. I had a trunk full of dresses, oversized shoes and costume jewelry. When we would visit my grandma I still wanted to play, but she didn't have any dress up clothes so we would make paper crowns to wear. I love the idea of creating your own glamour from something so simple, which is exactly what we do with clothing. It begins with an idea and raw materials and then you create something beautiful.

How would you describe the Paper Crown girl?
The Paper Crown girl is chic. She invests in separates and loves creating different looks for every occasion. She is sophisticated and youthful all at once.

Was there a particular inspiration for fall?
My inspirations come from all aspects of life. For the debut fall collection, I wanted to incorporate ultra feminine pieces with a hint of menswear.

What is your favorite piece from your current collection?
This is tough! I have favorite pieces from the fall collection for difference occasions. I recently wore the Ella dress to an event; I am in love with it! I belted the top layer with a silk tie to give it a little extra shape. It is great for so many body types and moves so beautifully. Another favorite piece is the Hudson short. I am always finding myself dressing up a pair of shorts instead of wearing a skirt. Add a pair of black opaque tights for fall and you're set. The look is effortless, comfortable and so chic.

Do you have a favorite trend you're shopping this fall?
Leather is at the top of my list. There are so many beautiful pieces in rich browns, nudes, and even the traditional black.

What is one thing every girl needs in her closet for fall?
Every girl needs a blazer that can go anywhere. The Ryder blazer can be dressed up and worn over a party dress or paired down with your favorite pair of jeans for a more relaxed look.

Do you have any personal fashion icons?
I don't have one specific person that I look to as an icon.

You're a California girl, what do you love about living on the West Coast?
The weather! I enjoy my trips to the East Coast, but I couldn't live without the warm California sunshine.

It's Saturday, where would we most likely find you?
Saturday's are spent enjoying a little down time. I try to get a little extra beauty rest, spend time with my family and friends and take my dog, Chloe, for hikes.

Do you have a favorite cocktail of the moment?
My drink of choice at the moment is a vodka and water with lime. Not the most exciting beverage but it has lower calories and keeps me hydrated.

Red Carpet Recap: Beyonce's In Lanvin With Baby Bump, Gaga As Dude, Pete Wentz Cleans Up Nice

Red Carpet Recap, MTV VMAs edition...Let's do this! Maybe even more so that other awards shows, the MTV VMAs make room for artists to really get arty with their looks. Like Lady Gaga as her beer-swigging alter ego Jo Calderone, or Nicki Minaj's candy-colored whatever that was paired with Tsumori Chisato tights, Brit in itty bitty Moschino, or Katy Perry and her four dress changes.
We also spotted our usual favorite red carpet walkers this VMAs season, including Kim Kardashian donning a silver plunging neckline and Beyonce in Lanvin, and a few others to note: Emma Watson looking cute and girly in an Alice + Olivia long sleeve dress; Zoe Saldana in Barbara Bui; Victoria Justice in a short number by Theory and shoes by Rock & Republic; host Selena Gomez in a hi-low black Julien Macdonald dress; and Pete Wentz in a suit. Yes, a suit.

What was your favorite look from the MTV VMAs?
