Color can energize your mood, brighten your day, and impart some serious style on an other-wise blah look. With all the emphasis on the Little Black Dress and the Little White Dress, it's easy to forget the importance of color in a wardrobe. Does anyone remember the snarky scene in The Devil Wears Prada when Meryl Streep (as Miranda Priestly, of course) recounts the genealogy of the color, cerulean, from couture to mass market? Brilliant (literally).
Well, from cerulean to chartreuse to fuchsia to fire engine red, we've been loving all of the vibrant, colorful pieces popping up lately. Here's a tribute to the bold and the beautiful spectrum of brights.
Items pictured above:
1. NU Collective Cross Strap Dress in Galaxy
2. Kenneth Jay Lane Flower Ring with Pearl in Yellow (also available in
pink and black).
3. Rachel Pally Chain Halter Dress in Golden
4.
Kenneth Jay Lane Pepper Pendant Necklace in Amber (also available in Jade green).
5. Cindy Lee Silk Sailor Tank in Aquaris
6. Joie Last Child Distressed Patent Flat in Ocean
7.
Vita Medium Bangle in Fuchsia. Vita bangles are available in just about
every color of the rainbow (and beyond).
8. Goldenbleu Emerson Clutch in Red Patent
And how to wear these acid hues? How to work with highlighter yellow and electric blue?
There are several schools of thought when it comes to brights. One opinion urges moderation. To avoid overdoing it, choose one brash, bright piece to add punch to any look. This especially works if the rest of your outfit is muted grey or black. Pair banana yellow bangles with a grey tee and jeans or a fiery red pepper pendant with a white frock and you'll instantly add oomph. Bright accessories work wonders in very subtle ways.

Lucky takes a different approach, insisting that bold hues from head-to-toe can be fab. They offer two ways to do it.
1. "Pull together separates by varying the degrees of vibrancy: Team heavier fabrics in richer shades... with floatier items in pastel tones. Finish it all off with earthy, low-key sandals."
2. Bright clothing can be paired with a bright shoe (neutrals are not necessary). "Pretty flats in a slightly darker tint can yield surprisingly chic results when paired with light, airy dresses that fall above the knee" (like the pink Cindy Lee pictured here, and above in vibrant aqua).
