La Dolce Vita

The very first Fellini film I ever saw was La Dolce Vita.

I can still remember being especially enamoured by the perfectly cut dresses some of the characters were wearing.

It was as if the fabrics had been sewn right on to them... like a second skin.

With their very structured yet very feminine silhouettes, those Italian women were so inspiring that I decided to embark upon a hunt for the perfect dress.

Coming across such an item of clothing is easier said than done, but I finally laid my hands on the holy grail: a D&G dress from a great Web site called Forward Forward, full of very beautiful and very tempting designer pieces.

And now that I've got my "Made in Italy" dress, the only thing left for me to do is to learn the language of the land... and to find a Marcello, of course!

It's a jean, no it's a legging...

Actually it's called a jegging, or jean leggings and they're the latest in tight skinnies to hit REVOLVE. You can count Hilary Duff, Rihanna, Rachel Bilson, and Kristen Stewart as fans, we've already spotted them wearing denim leggings with everything from over-the-knee boots to sky-high heels. Not entirely convinced? Check out our latest trend report where REVOLVE denim buyer Lauren Barnes dishes out advice on how to wear and style these skinny jeans, I mean leggings, er...jeggings.

Sonia, Unzipped

Is anyone else as excited as I am about Sonia by Sonia Rykiel hitting REVOLVE? The stripes and Parisian quirk are now that much closer to my closet! Sure she made her name in pullover sweaters—she's ruled as the Queen of Knits since the '60s—but I'm seeing a silk blouse with a side bow neckline that's too cute! And I'm loving all the zippers, from the oversized zipper on her cream-colored cardigan to the side zip on her little black jacket!

Sena It

If you're on the prowl for fine knits and luxe basics, look no further than New York—based designer Sena Yang. After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design, this Washington native fine—tuned her skills with some of the most notable names in the industry —Larok, Alexander McQueen, Catherine Maladrino, and Sue Temps just to name drop—before heading out on her own. Yang's debut collection, which she named "Urban Promenade," carefully blends her West Coast cas' with New York's downtown hustle. In her spring lineup you'll find easy draped tunics and asymmetrical tanks along with sheer paneled dresses and body con skirts. Now the question is, how early in the day can I sport these see—through mesh numbers?

The Boys are Bundling Up!

I like the cold, but sometimes the whole layering thing and plain coat thing gets sort of boring. And guys, you must feel the same way. Which is why REVOLVE offers outwear that covers the wide and varied fashion spectrum. Pea coats, trench coats, green coats, blue coats...yes they're all there. Flannel blazers next to an Italian wool tweed, and I even saw a plaid coat with toggles in the mix. Also, you'll benefit from the amazing collection of outwear over at Forward. There are some pretty fabulous finds over there, many of which are on sale!

Pocket Full of Posies

It may still be chillingly cold out, but I think there's no better way to beat the bleak than with a fresh pop of color. While scanning through street style blogs, I came across Tottie Greer on Altamira wearing an all black ensemble broken up by a sweet floral skirt. Now it may be freezing out, but this Monet-inspired peplum skirt says there's a warm light at the end of the windy tunnel.

Sounding Off

Audiophiles everywhere run to Sonoro for equipment and products that are sleek, compact, and offer major sound. The German company focuses on innovation as much as it does design, giving us music systems that are compatible with both iPods and modern living rooms. For example, take the Eklipse, a glossy black, multi-functioning speaker system engineered to bring maximum volume while taking up minimal space. The Eklipse features an integrated iPod dock, CD and MP3 player, alarm clock, AM/FM radio, and a line in/out so you can connect to other audio systems. And best of all, this little cube comes with a remote control! You don't even have to get up off the couch to skip a song or hit shuffle!

Stripes Forever: A Blog by Annie Spandex
Seneca Rising Ian Dress in Black 8020 Cody Buckle Back Hidden Wedge Boot in Black

I wore this to go see the new Herzog film at Belcourt. I love this Seneca Rising dress! It's sexy but tough. Even if I was wearing it with bare legs and high heels, I don't think anyone would want to mess with it. I'm pretty sure this dress can kick some ass. I got it from REVOLVEclothing along with some equally formidable boots and a cool little sweater. You can find the coolest things there.

Speaking of kicks, I finally have the 80%20 Cody boots! They've haunted my daydreams for long enough. I agonized over whether to get them in brown or black, and I'm not exaggerating--I seriously agonized. I'm not going to show the psycho pasted-up image I made of myself wearing either pair, so you'll just have to take my word for it. Ultimately, I chose the black ones. I have about a million outfits planned for them already. I actually bought my very first pair from REVOLVEclothing a little over a year ago, so I guess you could blame them for getting me hooked. They always have several styles available, and many on sale. Plus, shipping is fast and free. You can check out the selection here. I recommend them all!

8020 Cody Buckle Back Hidden Wedge Boot in Black

For those unfamiliar with my blog, this isn't my first pair of 80%20 shoes. In fact, I'm embarrassed to count how many I have. The reason I'm so stuck on this brand is because I love all the designs (they're so unique and interesting, they always get attention), it's hard to go back to flat boots now that I have the deceptive height-building hidden wedge, they're so incredibly comfortable, and I know the quality is good. Hi, my name is Annie, and I'm addicted to 80%20.

Seneca Rising

This Seneca Rising cardigan is also from Revolve. I've been throwing it on over everything, even a sequined dress. For such a casual little sweater it has surprisingly great tofu properties. It's nice to have something over your shoulders this time of year, don't you agree?

  • Q&A with Annie Spandex

REVOLVEclothing: When did you start writing your blog? Why did you decide to start a blog?
Annie Spandex: I started my blog in June 2008 as a creative project, something to occupy my time. I had recently graduated with degrees in psychology, was having trouble finding a job, and was a little lost. I felt powerless on the job search, but starting a blog was something I could control. I decided to start a blog about what
really interests me--style. I've always loved putting together unique outfits and wanted to share my perspective.

RC: Do you have any fashion icons or heroes?
AS: I find Diane Von Furstenberg to be very inspirational. I love what she said in an American Express commercial a few years ago: "I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but I knew the woman I wanted to become. Fashion was absolutely an accident in my life. As a result of that, I was becoming independent, and I was becoming more and more the woman that I wanted to be." I can really relate to that. When I started my blog, I didn't know what I wanted to do, but I knew who I wanted to be.

RC: Do you look to any specific inspiration when getting your outfits together? (movies, music, books, etc.)
AS: I'm inspired by the glam rockers of the mid to late 70's. I love the glitz, the color, and the devil-may-care attitude.
For me, fashion and music are very intertwined.

RC: How would you describe your personal style?
AS: I've always thought of it simply as funky. Someone once called it grunge princess. I could be described as having a rocker look, but I'm not afraid of color. It's definitely not a very dainty or polished look. When I wear dresses it's almost always with boots, and my hair is almost always messy.

RC: Where do you find most of your clothes?
AS: I bargain hunt on eBay quite a lot.

RC: Do you have any favorite designers?
AS: I tend to gravitate toward female designers who are doing their own thing. I love what Andi Ballard (Seneca Rising) is doing--the pretty tomboy grown-up look really appeals to me.

RC: What is your current fashion obsession?
AS: Cut-outs and patches. Patchwork has been on my mind since autumn when I started searching for the perfect quilt-like leggings. I wish I had the sewing skills to create what I've been looking for. I'm big into DIY, though. I plan on doing a project soon that's more in tune with spring.

RC: What are you up to these days, aside from blogging?
AS: I go to a lot of rock shows. If you're not very familiar with Nashville, then you may be surprised by what a terrific rock scene there is here. My boyfriend co-owns an indie record label and luckily, he likes going out as much as I do. Also, I've been working on an ad network and banner exchange for fashion and/or music bloggers: http://indiestylemedia.com. Next to blogging, it's my other baby.

Close Encounters of the Celebrity Kind
FRANK TELL COLLECTION Catalina Dress Beyond Vintage Collection William Rast Fringe Jacket Shades of Greige Blended Melange Shawl Cardigan
I love watching stylish people shop, the pieces they try on the things they pair up, the way a shirt transforms into a dress and vise versa. Sometimes a careful observation can teach a thing or two! So when we received these amazing pics of Lindsay Lohan shopping in our West Hollywood store, I got a little excited. Lindz got creative with select pieces from Future Classics, Frank Tell, and Beyond Vintave, adding major heels and floppy hats to accessorize. There's a fringe jacket by William Rast in there, and she even threw on a Shades of Greige cardigan, which follows the whole menswear-inspired, gender-bending look that's hanging around through spring. Love the picks, can't wait to see how (and where) she'll wear all these amazing finds!

Pretty in Plaid: A Blog by Aimee Song of Song of Style
REVOLVEclothing: Corpus Tulip Skirt in Navy REVOLVEclothing: LnA Short Sleeve Hemp Deep VREVOLVEclothing Guest Blog: Song of Style
(Forever 21 Aviator Jacket, LNA white top, Plaid Corpus Skirt, White Booties from a store in Santa Monica)

I could never pass an opportunity to wear a cute skirt, yet alone a cute plaid skirt with a shape of a tulip. This Corpus one that I got from REVOLVE is probably going to be the cutest skirt in my closet that the other skirts are going to be so jealous. Thank you REVOLVEclothing! <3

Q&A with Aimee Song of Song of Style

REVOLVEclothing: When did you start writing your blog? Why did you decide to start a blog?
Aimee Song: started a little over a year ago when I was reading blogs everyday and my picture folder was saved with too many great inspiration photos I've been saving from visiting different blogs. I initially thought about doing an interior design related blog but somehow taking pictures of my outfits was a lot easier than linking back interior design photos to their sources. haha

RC: Do you have any fashion icons or heroes?
AS: My mom in the '90s. Most of the clothes that I have from her are clothes she wore in the '90s. I also adore Chloe Sevigny's style. Seriously, her body and her style can do no wrong.

RC: Do you look to any specific inspiration when getting your outfits together?
AS: Definitely not books because for me a picture is worth more than a thousand words. I love watching movies from the '90s or even the early 2000s and love all the colors they mixed and matched. Everytime I watch Sex and the City, I always find great outfit inspirations and music wise it puts me in a mood to dress a certain way so I can definitely say I get inspired by music too. However, the best inspiration I get is from the internet where I can find other bloggers' style, and magazine editorials.

RC: How would you describe your personal style?
AS: It's somewhere in between girly and grunge just like my personality with lots and lots of accessories.

RC: Where do you find most of your clothes?
AS: From my mom's closet. Everytime I go back home to LA I always end up bringing back something from her closet.

RC: Do you have any favorite designers?
AS: It changes season to season but for now although it sounds cliche, I love Alexander Wang. I love him for bringing basics back designing everyday items in a fresh way and being a trendsetter. I also love everything from Opening Ceremony although I don't own any, and I love Balenciaga and Givenchy as well.

RC: What is your current fashion obsession?
AS: Anything that is faux fur. I just can't get enough of them and wish I owned a faux fur jacket in every single color that's out there. I could be wearing just a regular shirt and jeans but throw that faux faur jacket/vest on my outfit and I feel dressed up and very glam! haha

RC: What are you up to these days, aside from blogging?
AS: I work at an architecture firm in San Francisco so when I'm not blogging I'm drafting floor plans, helping architects design beautiful spaces, or making 3D models. Aside from working I like to hang out with my little doggie Charcoal. He is the best thing that's happened to me besides my boyfriend.

Fit For A Queenie!
Sam Edelman Queenie Lace Up Open Heel in Black
Sometimes a girl want's a bootie that lace ups and has a peep toe. And don't tell me I'm dreaming, because this Queenie heel from Sam Edelman has all that and more! The suede heeled bootie is elegant and slightly S&M at the same time, giving it versatility that's all the more favorable in one's wardrobe. If your look needs some sass, this shoe will do the trick; if your style already speaks for itself, this shoe has enough personality to compliment but not take over the party. Just look at Kim Kardashian, she sports the Queenie heel casually with cute denim and an oversized scarf!

Trend 2.0

Let's talk shoulders for a moment. As you know by now, our latest trend highlights the move towards structured shoulders on everything from blazers to dresses to the standard blouse. Since this armload stormed the runway, some of my favorite style icons and stage sirens have openly embraced the look?Lady Gaga, Emmanuelle Alt, Alexa Chung, and all the great wonders that came with the Balmania sweep of '09. Already 2010 is bringing shoulder action thanks to fashion vets Ciara, Burberry's fresh faced Emma Watson, and recently Cameron Diaz who sported the look at the Golden Globes. And now that the big shoulders have hit closer to home, bringing more affordable pieces and styles that are easier to incorporate into everyday life, this trend is looking much more accessible and user friendly!
