Carri Munden describes her Cassette Playa label as a "toxicolor uniform for hard boys and girls battling real and virtual worlds." This translates into a collection of neon colors and sci-fi digital graphics inspired by Japanese anime, African prints, and '90s raves. Munden contributes to several fashion magazines and regularly works with notable musical artists including M.I.A., the Klaxons, Chromeo, and Dizzee Rascal. In 2008, she was listed as Best Fashion Designer in Rolling Stone's Best of Rock.
REVOLVEclothing: How did your Toy Story character inspire you and then mirror your design aesthetic?
Carri Munden: Buzz is my favourite character because he is a fearless futurist and adventurer! The ultimate cassette playa warrior, to infinity and beyond!
RC: How would you say your trademark looks or signature styles are represented in your Toy Story piece?
CM: Our design is total signature Cassette Playa = graphic, future and cartoon
RC: This is quite a unique project; how did you get started and was the creative process different than how you normally design clothing?
CM: We often take influence from comics and cartoons and films so our process wasn't so different. Cassette Playa is about building new worlds and characters, so translating Buzz into our design was very similar to the way we design each season.
