"Jeans are completely capable of telling long stories because they last forever," explains Michelle Siwy, founder and designer of the New York-based, Los Angeles-produced denim line Siwy. "It's one of the only materials that can handle physical and emotional wear and tear." Siwy always had a fascination with the indigo fabric. As a child perusing thrift stores, there was a whole other narrative to the rips, tears, and holes that adorned the denim racks. "I imagined who the owner could have been. I wondered about the exact place and time that hole or paint splash came from and who owned it," she says. "It was and is always fascinating to me even now."
